General Information About Umred Karhandla Tiger Reserve

Spread over an area of 180 sq km.It is 58km away from Nagpur is a beautiful sanctuary well connected with Tadoba Andhari Tiger reserve forest which is located along Wainganga River. The enormousdelight sought in the realms of nature, will create a permanent impact of the soul, it inhabits a variety of flora and fauna; attracts a good number of tourists every year who can spot the rare animals such as pangolins, honey badger and pangolins.

The large area of the sanctuary is fed by the Wainganga River and also the Gosikhurd dam. It is approximately 80km away from the famous Pencha tiger reserve which is located at the northeastern side of this sanctuary. A 10km long narrow range of hills is situated on the borders of the region. These hills are 600-800m high and enrich the scenic beauty.

The UmredKarhandla sanctuary is in close proximity of Nagpur and Umred city. It has been attracting a large numbers of tourists which has been increasing since past few years. Sights of majestic cats are quite common in the region around the tiger reserve.

The sanctuary serves as great link between the areas of Nagzira, Tadoba, Bor and Pench. This connection proves helpful tourists visiting the place.
A motor able road of good quality which is about 100km long has been constructed in the sanctuary. It allows the tourists to commute in the area. This road can afford 40 vehicles each day.
20 local people from the nearby village have been trained by the forest department of the state. They have been employed as guides to show the visitors around the forest. Karhandla village is the main entrance to the sanctuary. The local people in the region are very helpful.
After Pench, UmredKarhandla is one of the most visited sanctuaries of our country. Every year a large number of wildlife observers visit the sanctuary and get the most out of their safari trip. Although one can visit any season which is convenient to them, other than the monsoon season when the sanctuary is closed for visitors. The best time to visit the UmredKarhandla Sanctuary is from the month of March to the month of June. The climate of Nagpur city remains moderate throughout the year. Also the months after the monsoon season when the sanctuary remains closed, serve as an ideal visiting season.
